The Japan Cartoonist Association and 5 other manga related large companies have decided that "Culture Day" (a Japanese national holiday) on November 3rd is to be renamed as the "Manga Day".

Until this solid date was decided upon, it has been said that "Manga Day" is on the day of Osamu Tezuka's death, February 9th, or as some people claim, on July 17th, on the day the British satirist comic magazine, "Punch" was first published in 1841.

The reason behind this re-naming the day is due to the fact that the Japan Cartoonist Association with the publishing companies claim for the spread of recognition of the importance of the manga culture upon the Japanese public. Now that November 3rd has become the official "Manga Day" for the manga fans, it may be better for some of today's youngsters unfamiliar with the meaning of having national holidays to realize the importance of celebrating cultural legacies.
