Publications of English Comic Magazine "Monthly RAIJIN COMICS" Suspended
The all-English manga magazine, "RAIJIN COMICS" that had started publications from May last year (publisher: Shinchosha) and had serialized such popular Japanese mangas asCity Hunter, Fist of the North Star, and Baki the Grappler has now decided to suspend publications with the September 5, 2003 issue.
The "RAIJIN (Thunder God) COMICS" was published in Japan with the aim that it might be used by Japanese people who are hoping to improve their English skills through reading manga. Sales of the magazine were limited to Seven Eleven convenient stores and subscription. The magazine was published by Shinchosha and edited by the company Coamix organized by the ex-Weekly JUMP chief editor, Nobuhiko Horie, and was almost the English language counterpart to the comic magazine "Comic Bunch" that was being published with the same establishment.
"RAIJIN COMICS" had been much talked about in the past, as the manga magazine that has started publications in the US before the release of the English version of Weekly Shonen JUMP, and acted as one of the pioneers in the now mainstream sales measures of selling their magazine as a set together with a figure, and also as one of the few Japanese manga magazines that had chosen subscription as their main sales method.
The reasons as to why they are going to suspend the publications has not been announced, but the publications of the American version of RAIJIN COMICS still seems to be continued, so overseas fans should keep on supporting the magazine with the hope that it lasts.
