Hayao Miyazaki's latest animated film, "Howl's Moving Castle", has been nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Feature.

At the Studio Ghibli official homepage, president and producer Toshio Suzuki commented that they were honored by the nomination and proud to see that conventional animation can still receive critical acclaim in an era increasingly dominated by 3D digital art. He went on to say that Ghibli will continue to release more quality animation for children in the future, and finished by stating that work on the next film, "Gedo Senki", is progressing.

As we reported in a December article, "Howl's Moving Castle" was also nominated for an Annie Award.

The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 5, in Los Angeles.
