It
was another typical cloudy humid summer day for the Wonder Festival
this year. Not that this ever really has an effect on the fans and
enthusiasts who drift through in droves...
The Wonder Festival
is the biggest event for garage kits and figures - and there is
always an unbelievably huge range from professionals right down
to hard-working amateurs. It's a big mix at this event and a great
opportunity for those people trying to get into the industry.
We could tell
you how many booths there were but the program is 230 pages long
and I'm not gonna count them all - sorry!
As you can see
from the images below there were some amazing things on display
- although Risa-chan's favourites veer more to the grotesque...
...and
you thought she was such a sweet girl didn't you?
For many people
the Wonder Festival is like a combat zone - many often camp outside
or arrive at some ungodly hour, then line up for ages hoping for
the chance to buy THAT dream figure, but often suffering from the
harsh blow of defeat as it sells out when they are just the next
one in the queue...
For others it's
just a day of fun wandering around a place like a huge toy store!
But
Wonderfest is not just for the garage model kit enthusiasts - there
a lots of cosplayers running around (and space to take photos of
them - unlike the paparazzi feel of Comiket!) and stacks of booths
selling doujinshi - especially with the special one-day licensing
agreement deal.
All in all it's
just an event in celebration of the fun stuff - figures, doujinshi
and cosplay - what more could you ask for from an event?
